PIAA H4 Extreme White Headlight Bulb - 55W/110W (anti-vibration)
After reading several threads here on improving night time visibility, I bought the bulb listed above. This bulb is about twice that of the GE SilverStar, but is certainly worth the difference. Being anti-vibration, it has a thicker element that the standard auto type some folks have been using, hence the higher price.
I think I will change the headlight lens. I have the clear lens now and I think I need to go with the fluted lens, especially for daytime. Not sure if anyone else has experience the same.
I know the 'blue-tint" can be a little aggrevating to oncoming drivers, but hey, I want to been seen as well as be able to see.
So far, I have had no problems with excess heat, but I haven't pull the headlight since I installed it to check for excess heat. The 5 1/4" housing doesn't feel any hotter than normal to touch.
go with a HID light conversion kit. 3X the light, 2k hours on a bulb. 2.7 amps draw after fire up. 3X the light, 2x less power & it is not a yellow light. This is what all bikes will use in the future. When you get older, your cones in the back of the eyes do not reflect as good so you can not see as good as you once did. Get a HID. The best upgrade you can buy for your bike. You can now see at night well. check it out for yourself. Test drive a benz. New units are very small and you can even cut wires. Starter fits in a headlight. Wires can run thru the frame & ballast can mount behind the oil tank in a chopper upgrade. Fl,s, softails & Dynas are a piece of cake. They come in different ligt frequency's so get a 6,500 Kelvin which is daylight.
What about the low vs. high beam? I know they have some with a little motorized deflector built in, but the quality had been less than stellar in the past. Has it improved? Especially for the initial investment.
These fog lights i got off ebay (driving lights) they are amazing! really light up the road... I have buddys that live off some country roads and at night it gets DARK! then i live in the city... it is nice to have the bright lights letting people know where i am... I also have a silver star plasma white headlight in... it is ok.

I have the new digital type ballast that are 1/3 the thickness of a pack of cigarettes. I have no problem, works like any other light except for the brief start up ignition. Power goes to 20 amps for a few seconds than to 2.7 amps. It does have Hi-Lo beam and is a magnetic solenoid type. It just works. I can tell you this, HID is the single most needed part on a modified Harley. This is of course, if you are a little older. Kids can see in the dark & do push-ups with no hands in the am. I know that there are many companies out there that make HID. I found one that has all the support and no-hassle warranty and support when installing it. If you purchase it, make sure you know who you are doing business with. Harley sells them for $500 for only a low beam option. Not worth jack. Do due diligence in selecting a company. Get a Hi-Lo!

One of my only complaints with my 06 Street Bob is how poorly it lights up the road at night. I am using the stock bulb and have always wanted to swap it out with something brighter. Is it pretty easy to do yourself (for an average wrencher) or would you recommend I have the service guys do it at my next appointment?
My previous bike had a huge light bar on the front so I guess I am just spoiled.
