Default Exhaust woes, what the f***

I have an 05 fxdi daily rider in Metro-Atlanta traffic, all weather all conditions, never had any problems during the heat of summer then.....Yesterday stuck in stop and go I noticed that my normally very quick FI idle suddenly changed to a struggling lug (in Neutral, no throttle), but smoothed out when given some throttle. Also have noticed a clinking/pinging type noise coming from front exhaust heat shield, non-rhythmic only happens when hot, and motor is under load with tranny ingear.15k serv just done (less than 50 miles ago). Bike is running good besides, exhaust leak? Good way to check? Thanks in advance, ride on...

I also ride the Atlanta area. Kennesaw to Roswell and then back in the afternoon. Barrett Parkway and 41 can be rough on hot days.
Is that the first time you have had it do that? It sounds like a cylinder is shutting down. Seems like I read somewhere that Harley has it do so when heat reaches a certain level but then when throttle is used or anything it comes back. But that would not be the case if it hadn't done it during the 100 plus days of a few weeks ago.
You ride all year in Atlanta? I am hoping to also.
Would like to find out how you dress and set up for different seasons.

Ride down Chastain, to Barrett out to West Cobb. 5 days a week, and definitely hotter weather than high 80's. More heat coming off engine yesterday than usual, my nuts can tell the difference. Though I might have an exhaust leak and this was not pulling hot exhaust off motor correctly. PM me about riding in the Hotlanta area.

that is a heat management system, when it gets too hot, the rear cyclinder stops pumping in fuel to cool down. i wasn't aware that this was on the 05's but i guess it is a system on all them with FI.

Clarification: This NEVER happened this summer and it was wayyyyyy hotter this year in Atlanta than years past. It was only 89 degrees or so yesterday and that is cool compared to August. Thinking maybe the exhaust leak raised the engine temp as it was not traveling out pipe? Why after recent oil change, cooler outside temp, why would this "Heat Management System" kick in if it never did when it was 100+ degrees a month ago on old oil? Thanks for reading and I appreciate any info

i dont think the 05's do have the cly shut off but the EFI does add fuel when it gets too hot to try and cool it down which causes the idle to get ruff and makes it somewhat hesitnet on the restart. its normal and you may want to richin up your tuner or add one if you dont have one. i had this alot till i got my tfi and riched things up, now it only dose it when its over 100 degs and im stuck in rush hour not moving for more than 15 mins. but its arizona and its always hot
