exhaust confusion
Theres alot of confusion regarding slipons.DoI remap or change air cleaner or not?Talked to V&H tech this afternoon about straightshots slipons and told If I didn't change air cleaner should not have any problems.True or not?
Likely, but there are not guarantees. I did this with Rush 1.75 and did a plug check every 5 miles for about 50 miles; with no sign of running too lean on the plugs I continued to ride for another 400 and then the parts arrived the AC. I also then added the TMax and have no worrys now about too lean. While some like to say the engine is a simple pump and that as long as you only change input or output, but not both you should be OK. But as lean as then HDs run it would not take too much to be too lean. Do you really comfortable believing that if you change the output (exhust) it will have absolutely no impact on the input? Proceed with caution.
If you use the Vance& Hines slipons with the quiet baffles youshould be fine without a remap
as long as you use the stock air cleaner.
They are still very loud and the quiet baffles produces decent back pressure.
It is only when you change the air cleaner to a high flow and the pipes that you need a remap
or SERT, Fuelpak, PCIII etc.

Before I purchased my PC3,A/C,and Santee Long Shot Exhaust > I had exactly what you described. {V+H Slip ons) They sounded great, I had no problem, but I always wondered in the back of my head if it was really "o.k". I always checked plugs and they were always a smokey grey color. Everything seemed fine. Due to being paranoid about messing it up, I purchased a bunch of stuf and made it right. I sold the old slip on's of mine to my buddy with an '07 SG and he's happy with them. Performance stand point ... that's another case. When we get on it .. He's absolutley no competition what so ever. I run all over him.. To get the best performance out of it you really outgha save your money, ger your ducks in a row and do it right. $1,000 worth of parts is alot cheaper then a hole in your pistonand warped valves and bent rods.
Thanks guys this is my harley in 4 months, first 1 was 07 sporty 883 std wasnt big enough me and wife so traded up 2 08 superglide much happier. Just wasnt sure being told change this dont need 2 change anything. Think might order quiet baffles for now then before spring do it right if wife lets go of creditcard. Thanks again.
Can't say about V&H specifically but dealer told me and have seen it posted several times on this site that, as long as you leave the stock a/c, you don't need a remap for slip-ons. I've been running that way with SE II slip-ons for almost a year now and everything looks and runs fine so far with no remap.
