I have settled on Vance & Hines MO's slip ons the question is this... One guy who worked for baltimore harley who now owns his own shop can get them for me and says that i dont need to do anything else to the bike as far as air cleaner and computer module. But the local harley dealer where i bought the bike insists that if i change the mufflers i need to change the air cleaner and add a new power module and do a download to the tune of around $1300-1400 total. All I want is a deeper sounding little louder bike when traveling down the road not looking for more horsepower. But at the same time dont want to blue the pipes or mess up the valves or overheat.
just slip them on you don't need a fuel management system or air cleaner dealership parts employees are commissioned they are just trying to make there pay check off of you my dealership does the same thing, i took the baffles out of the stocks and they told me i would need a a/c or i would over heat and my spark plugs would burn up...2500 miles later she doesn't over heat plugs still look new and she still runs like a raped ape so just slip them on and ride the **** outta her you'll be happy.
This seems to be a typical question and I know I am going through it right now as I picked up some V & H basic slipons for my bike to replace the screamin eagle pipes. My bike already has a stage 1 download and air cleaner but the local dealer now said I need a tuner for $800. After questioning him a little more he said I may not need if the bike runs ok but he certainly did not word it that way. I guess the only option is to try it.
On your end and I think this is pretty common with most bike if you just chan ge the pipes and not the air intake you should be good if you increase the air flow in to the motor you will need to either do a download or add a fuel processor or you will run to lean as more air is coming in. I am sure there are many more knowledgable people here that can give more input.
I have used Vance & Hines long shots and stock size K&N air filter for the last 30k on my Road Glide. And yes baltimore Harley will screw you every time be careful.
U should be fine, I have had numerous bikes in the past (like most here) and when all I've done is put on some new slip ons all the bikes have run fine.
Use the Vance & Hines FuelPak Fuel Management with the Vance & Hines pipe you can put it on your self no mapping and save on the cost from your dealership.
When i got my 08 rkc they did the stage1 w/heavy breather and se slipons.I changed slipons only to MO'S.Bike ran fine.Changed again to CFR slipons again bike ran fine.Point being like others have said if it's only slipons you dont need to do anything.I've since added cfr dual headers so in my position i got the pcv.Bike runs great. They just want your moolahh$$$.
