Default Air intake questions

I see a lot of guys talking about re-mapping and getting tuners after doing a DK air intake upgrade or something similar. After searching around on here, I didn't find the answer I was looking for and was just more confused about the process. what I need to know is if I buy an air intake do I have to actually remap or buy a tuner so that my bike will still run correctly afterwards or is this just something folks are doing in addition... Like a hotdog with ketchup.... And mustard? I'm not really want to do a re-map or tune due to the financial constraints of having an infant. Thanks in advance.

If your bike is stock and you add a high flow air cleaner then it will be fine, if you already have non stock pipes such as short shots or slip ons then it will need a tuner of some sort. The ecu can compensate for a different air cleaner or exhaust but not both. If you are looking to save money and want a high flow air cleaner and different pipes then get yourself some xied,s.
They are great value for money and diy fit it minutes and a huge difference in price over a tuner like a pcv, powervision or fuel pack.
Hope this helps.

+1 on the XIEDs.....I have used them on my last 6 bikes.....I love them. Great value....tuners are needed if you are going to do a lot of engine mods but if all you plan is an air cleaner and slip ons......they really arent needed.

I'm gonna have to research the xieds. I definitely don't have stock pipes, original owner changed them up. I'm always leary of changing up the computer mapping, just makes me nervous since it's my everyday driver.

Adding air to an already lean running condition isn't recommended...tuner would be good investment.

I think I'm gonna try the xieds. Even if I don't get the new air cleaner it seems like it would be a simple/beneficial upgrade.
