im trying to find info on relocating ignition switch to the tank console using the softtail switch.. i read some where on here that it could be done on a 06 fxd but im not having much luck finding what im looking for.. has anyone done this mod and wouldnt mind passing on some how to tips or maybe point me to the threads that i could read on how to do this mod...thanks
Several of us have done it, me included. It will fit just below the fuel gauge. I drilled a 2" hole, but 1 7/8 or so would probably be better (closer tolerance).
I suggest miking the switch diameterbefore drilling the hole. Got my switch from Eastern Performance for around $25.
Any number of ways to wire it, etc.
I'll ry to get a decent pic for you of my install.
is the wiring the same on the SG as it is on the SB, could i just plug the connector to the new switch or does it not wire that way .. any pics of the correct way to wire up...thanks guys
If you have a shop manual and have ever done any electrical work, you should be able to adapt just about any kind of ignition switch to work how you need it to. You may have to fabricate the adaptor for the console. If you aren't comfortable making changes like that, check out some of your local indy's and find out what they can do for you.
yea i have a dyna service manual and i,ll look at it to see how the wiring is. i was hoping it was a plug and play as far as the wiring was concerned...thanks
I wired mine in series with the frame mounted switch. You could wire it in parallel or completely disconnect the frame switch. Dn't know of any plug/play connector(s)
I'll try to pm you the pics.
