Broke down and did it Kury forwards I am 6' with34" inseam mids were just to tight. I did leave mid pegs on for alternate position. Took about 2 hours not bad now waiting for it to stop raining so I can shake them down.
I just picked up a sat for my dyna yesterday. Looked at the directions and looks pretty simple. Was leaning towards the HD forwards but with all the labor and the dificulty putting the mids back on if you dont like them made me go with the Kury set up. Any tricks when putting them on or are the directions unlike the hd ones?
Only problem was getting HD stock shifter on very tight opene it up best you can but still had to beat it on (be careful) also bolt no longer works I got a chrome replacement 1/4 20 with chrome acorn nut worked well
Did you get the regular or extended version? I'm the same size/inseam as yourself, and I still find my legs are a little cramped with the HD forwards. This is on an '03 Lowrider. I'm thinking about extendeds, but 3" on the Kurys may be a bit much.
I have the HD forwardson myFXDBand at 6'3" with a 35" inseam I was also cramped a bit.
I added the Kury 3" extensions and iso heel rests. My body position and weight ditribution while ridinghas changed for the better.
I am 6'4" with 34" inseam and put the standard Kuryakyn set on my FXDC almost a year ago. I do still have some bend in my knee but I like it that way - I feel I have more control over the bike than I would if my legs were competely extended.
I had 2 issues with my install. First, while I fairly easily got the stock shifter onto the new shaft, I was unable to get the factory pinch bolt to fit back through it. Instead I went and got a smaller diameter bolt with a washer and nut and installed it that way. I have had no issues with that. The other issue was with one of the bolts that connects the new shift linkage to the existing connection point or it was with the bolt that connects the retaining clip to the old connection point - I don't remember which. Anyway, the issue was that the supplied bolt, while the right size, had the wrong thread. Again, I don't remember if it was coarse and I needed fine or vice versa. But, I went and got the opposite thread type bolt from a HW store and it installed with no problems. I followed the instructions to a T and used loctite and/or anti-sieze where applicable and have had no issues and have required nor made any adjustments since the initial install. I had a couple of questions during the install and called Kuryakyn and they were very friendly, helpful, and reassuring. The only issue I've had since is that the bolt that holds the right-side peg mount on broke on my last week while I was trying to tighten it. It was most likely my fault for repeatedly overtightening it. I called Kuryakyn and they've already shipped me a replacement peg mount and bolt. Of course, I had to pay for the parts but they were quick and helfpul nonetheless.
I installed the HD kit on my 02 FXD a few months ago. I'm 6 ft with a 32" inseam and I'm still a little cramped. Also, imo, the Kury kit looks better with the beefier construction. But you pay more for that.
Just a thought. Standard size kit with some Kuryakyn swing-wing pegs. Gives you some leg bend when you want it and the wings swing out 3 more inches for when you are cruising. I'm thinking about trying it out.
