Its NOT a CRUISE CONTROLL.

its a throttle lock, and it can break in the locked position. if that happens to be when your cruisin down the road well... good luck to you.

I used mine on an 1100 mile trip this summer.......By the time I got home, it wouldn't work at all
it already failed for one person.

I have a lot of trouble with my hands getting numb while riding. I use this throttle control quite a bit but always found it awkward to manipulate. I saw a throttle lock device on eBay and ordered one. At $18.00 shipped, it seems a lttle pricey for what it is, but I have to say, it is just the ticket.

I use the same one for the last 6 months and haven't had a problem.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I"ll be turning it until the **** almost falls off.....and going from there. I'll just do it until the throttle SNAPS back - that's what I was looking for: the tell-tale sign that it's where it should be, and go from there! I just know that I must have really turned it back and forth when waxing up under there and didn't even realize I was doing it. Because it is NOT how it was prior! Just doesn't have the 'feel' in my hand like it did - and what I was used to - knew how much gas to give it, etc..... Slowly but surely I'll regain my confidence to get back on it - maybe not this year but soon!!!

The throttle screw is nothing but a friction pad that puts tension on the rotating drum of the throttle grip inside the housing. You adjust this on a highway trip to hold the throttle in the on position while riding down the road. You adjust it tight enough to hold the throttle open, but not so tight that you cannot turn the grip with your hand should the need suddenly arise.
Regardless of what others may say, it is a cruise control of sorts.....the mechanical type. On long highway runs it is a very useful thing to have. Around town you should unscrew the **** until the throttle snaps back closed when the grip is released. Also, the only way this will 'hang up' on you is if you tighten down the **** so tight that you cannot close the throttle.
If you do that, then you get what you deserve.........pg

Hey Fraz, I don't think it's more than 1 or maybe 2 full turns(360 degrees) to go from on(cruise) to off(snap back). I'd be carefull unscrewing it too much, don't know what kind of bits and pieces are inside there.

There are a total of 4 pieces in the throttle friction. The retainer (item 4) prevents you from unscrewing everything. It is simple as dirt and you cannot do any harm by using the control. Just don't use it in heavy traffic where you are constantly rolling the throttle on and off.........pg

since the bikes are fuel injected one can twist on the throttle all they want without the engine running and you won't hurt a thing. If you have front forks locked, unlock them, straighten out the front and turn the friction **** a quarter turn at a time until the throttle snaps back the way you like it. on a carbed bike it's best to do this while the engine is running because you will be squirting fuel out from the accelerator pump. if the engine isn't running you are washing the cylinder walls down with gas , not good.

Thank you SO much for the post! I will do exactly this and know I"m not hurting anything. I never thought about if the bike needed to be running to mess with the throttle control but thanks to you I will get it 'right' while it's in the garage!

Most appreciated!!

I've used one of these for thousands of miles with no problems. I put the shaft of the control to the inside so it doesn't interfere with my thumb when I'm cranking on the throttle. It's set so that when I move the lever as far toward me as it will go the throttle is locked but will still snap off with just a little pressure on the throttle. Mostly use it on road trips but it's handy anytime you need to free your right hand for a little bit. I don't see the danger in it unless you crank it down too hard. The old bikes didn't even have a throttle return, you had to twist on and off the throttle.

Good Luck

Tom
