I have been a Dyna owner since 1995, and for the life of me, cannot figure out why the Dyna seems to be viewed as the redheaded stepchild of the HD world, when it comes to purchasing aftermarket parts and even some factory HD original parts. Not nearly as much is made for the Dyna as there is for Softtails and Sportsters. The dyan is the best handling HD on the market and has been, so why is it everytime I look for a part for my bike...I only find applications for Softtails and Sportsters? [:@]
I think it is cause for the most part we turn our own wrenches and do not pay some guy in a harley mechanic t shirt 100 dollars an hour for a oil change and clutch adjustment!
Everytime I search for pipes, a new kickstand, or what ever...I can find it for Sportys and Softtails. It is irritating...I have been looking for a forward mounted kickstand for my lowered 96 FXDL, and aside from Arlen Ness, I can't find any others that are made for anything but the two golden children of HD.
I've never made the comparison for aftermarket parts so I'll take your word that there is more out there for the Softails. But, I haven't had any trouble finding anything I've wanted for my Dyna and have seen plenty that I don't care for either. Sure, HD dealers may not carry or sell as much for the Dyna but I usually go other routes to make my purchases if I can help it anyway. I just picked up and installed a nice chrome bullet headlight from Eastern Performance on ebay for $90 shipped. From all appearances, it seems just as nice as the one HD sells in the same size for $300. That's just one example. Bottom line, I don't really agree with you I guess is what I'm saying. Again, if you compare to the Softail, then maybe there are in fact more accessories but I never look at what's out there for a Softail because I don't own one and don't care too. And, like I said, I have been able to find whatever I want for my dyna.
Hang out here regularly, you'll get enough dyna love that you won't feel like a stepchild anymore.
Hey swamphunter you're not alone in that left out feeling, I've sensed the same thing. Those of you with the new iron, hang on to it for a few years then see how your are treated by the MOCO. For the positive, when parked in groups or riding most of the general public do like the classy lines of the dynas and that big ol engine in the frame gets a lot of attention since it's not hidden behind other clutter. Maybe it's what is being pushed by the dealers on the market.
Dyna owners hold your head high and in the wind.
