I was thinking about trying to find a bag that would fit on the outside of the risers on my t-bars, basically sitting flush with the top edge of the trees. I see a lot of frame and fork bags but haven't really seen anything like I have in mind. Is it the same thing, more or less, as a "windshield bag"? Does such a thing exist? I'd want something that goes on and off fairly easy. When I have my "sofa cushion" of a seat installed with the sissy bar, I have a roll bag that I carry on the luggage rack. But, when I'm riding solo, which I usually am, I can only carry with me what will fit in my pockets. It would be nice to have something I could tuck a pair of sunglasses and carry a few simple tools like a compact hex wrench set in case my peg mounts get loose on me and things like that. I don't really care to pay out the **** to get something with H-D on it but that would be okay if not too expensive. Any ideas?
I bought me this one for $21.95 (the 8" version) and put it on the risers using 4 zip ties ... holds 2 disc locks, 2 lil' rags, my mini-maglite and the leatherman just fine.
the bag (the 11" version, mine ain't that wide) ...
where I mounted it (sorry for the crappy pic, only one I got) ...
Thanks, but I'm really looking for something a little wider, a little harder leather and something that would mount and dismount without using zip ties. Any ideas anyone?
I have 2 in risers plus the stock risers on my bob... this is what i use for my fork bag stereos and it is perfect... big enough to hold my stereo, tools, eyeglasses and some electircal tape!

That's more the size I had in mind but would like to find a harder bag like that. Does that bag attach to your risers using the straps or whatever that it came with? What kind of bag is it - is it considered a windshield bag, a fork bag, or what? I saw one in a HD store that I wish I could find a picture of but can't locate one right now. I'm just thinking a fork bag may not mount to the risers because of the difference in the width.
Anyway, maybe I'm chasing something that doesn't exist...
2007 FXDC, the bag JRK 5892 has on his bike is the 11" size ... my dealer had a few in the parts dept. and I looked at most of 'em, they're all roughly the same size. As far as "sturdier" and "easily removable" are concerned ... were I in your shoes, I'd buy one of the bags that works size-wise, create a lil' plastic liner on the inside for stability and put two/four self-made velcro-straps on the back ... instant "sturdy" & "detachable" fork bag.
Here's one very similar to the one I saw in the dealer store except the leather was much more rigid. Other than that, it looked almost like this. I guess, if nothing else, I could tie it on using the leather strings hanging off of it.
Kraut is correct... it is a harley bag... uses the stock straps to conect to to the risers... i got it on ebay for 4 bucks... GOOD DEAL! there is a harley logo on the front i will look for a pic of it... great little bag... it is pretty thick leather so it does not hang real loose
-here is a close up.. sorry the pic is so small... it even works with the windshield on...
^ Had that one (edit: "the one in 2007fxdc's post") in my hand at the dealer's. Not "rigid" by any means but a nice bag nonetheless ... but I didn't want to spend $50 on something that's that easily stolen and I don't really have the hots for tassles. For brands other than H-D, a search on jpcycles and cyclespot brings up a whole bunch of results ... and ace leathers makes some real nice looking (+ quite pricey, ~ $70) ones.
