check your breather assembly... when it is loose it will make that type of noise... just see if it shakes around a bit just tighten it up

Be sure and check everything on the outside before assuming its soomething on the inside, I have had exhaust bolts come loose and it would do that.

Yep, start wit the breather assembly, then work your way back from there. Make sure your baffles in the exhaust pipes aren't rattling around.................... My rear fender rack screw came loose once, it sounded like the engine was gonna blow.

a wooden handle is good for checking. push on the heat shields in different areas while trying to duplicate the noise. then you can shove it up your pipe (LOL) and hold the baffle tight. also good for sticking to your ear to listen to internals. a toilet plunger handle works great! i drill throiugh one end so i can hang it on the side of toolbox---------------------just a tip

if you take a long screwdrived and put it against your motor and the handle to your ear it will allow you to hear inside the motor... i have no idea how or why it works but i was told the tip on here and sure enough it worked great! if it is not your breather or exhuast (i would bet the breather) you can use this trick so yo do not have to tear apart your motor... if it is not one of the two it may be yor rockers... if your push rods are not propperly seated you will get the clicking sound

Also, do a compression check, I had a blown head gasket that made a chirping sound.
