You can probably leave it disconnected all the way up to the point where you re-connect it...
I don't know of any consequences related to leaving the battery disconnected. I'm sure there will be consequences for me being a smart-a$$

diconected mine completely to do some tach welding for two weeks or so and then got a warm day so hook back up and rode. Only effect I saw was a flashing 12:00 time.
