Default Oil Filter Problem

Had some free time today so decided to change the oil for the first time by myself.

EVerything else was a breeze but I didnt have a proper (HD) oil filter wrench, tried to use one of those band things but no luck, wouldnt even budge.

Then tried the old rope hitch trick, again no dice, last resort was the screwdriver through the filter routine. Again, this baby is on tight tigh tight.

Please anybody what do I do next, doI try a real HD wrench or trailer it to the stealer? And feel like a real loser :-)

thanks

get the right tool for the job and try again. why give the stealer money that you dont have to. youll feel better if you get it done yourself.

I bought the HD wrench and it broke first try. I took it back and thy wanted to give me another. What do I want less than a bad wrench? Another bad wrench!!! I have an old wrench from my car that worked great.

Made by Drag Specialties. Cost $10.00. Its one piece so not much to break. Works with a 3/8" drive ratchet. Has a cutout to protect Crank Positioning Sensor. Preserve your pride and pick one up.

I had an 3/8 drive auto wrench and used my drimel tool and cut a notch in it like Harley's. Works great.

Make sure you are undoing the filter. By this i mean direction to un screw the filter. Dont laugh i am sure we have all made this mistake at least once. While undoing something nuts & bolts etc.

If you have already used the screw driver and made a hole in the filter, may be the filter is now to badly damaged to use the tool.

Last resort is using the screw driver and hammer. Screw driver used on the lip of the filter where it mates with the alloy housing. Very Very carefully tap the filter to undo. Not damaging the alloy.

Time to upgrade to a chrome oil filter bracket. Then don't tighten the filter on as tight as the douchebag that last changed your oil.
these things don't have to be tight to keep a seal. Overtightening can cause them to leake because the seal can tear.
