I did my second oil change after the first oil change, but before the third oil change, thought that made sense
Hd did my first, andput Syn3 in at about 1200 miles. Took the Syn3 crap out at 2500. I run M1 20W50 and change oil every 2500-5000.
I do check the stick before most every ride. If the level shows consumption, I change it.
all changes after the 1K did myself... at 1250 orso got rid of the Syn3 and shifted to Mobil One V-Twin, a 100% Syn oil in primary and engine... put Redline Heavy Syn Gear Oil (75W250) in tranny and what a difference that made, at 5K pulled all oil plugs and they were finally clean of silvery residue... plan now is engine every 3K, Primary and Tranny every 10K.. If you ride 5-6 thousand miles per year you still need to change the engine oil and filter at least twice yearly. The trans and primary once per year.More miles, adjust accordingly.
5014 miles ....getting it done today
I second that you should change oil sooner if you are doing only 5K per year....Also Florida is considered an extreme condition state. I know for my car the owners manual recommends to change the oil every 3500 miles instead of the usual 7000 mile intervals for other seasonal states(according to owners manual).... Don't know if Harleys should be the same way though.
