A Wide Glide outer primary will work and does not have the hole since they do not come with mid controls. If you use the WG primary, you will want to work out a plug for the shifter shaft hole in your inner primary.
That is great it gives me more options I wasn't sure, as far as the plug goes and corect me if I am wrong it should be in the HD Forward control kit. Also does any one know the year span that matches up with the 08?
06 - 08 kits fit the same models. Earlier model kits can be used as well. The plug which comes in the forward control kit is for the hole in the outer primary which is left behind when the shifter shaft from the mids is removed. If you use a Wide Glide outer primary on a bike which had mids, you inner primary will still have a hole. This is the hole I am speaking of needing to be plugged. The cosmetic plug which comes with the forwards is not the type of plug I would recommend using. Something such as a rubber expandable freeze plug would be better suited for this.
On the models with mids, the shifter shaft hole on the outer primary has a hollow neck which protrudes towards the inner primary. The inner primary has a hollow neck which meets the one from the outer. Together they seal allowing the shifter shafter a dry well to sit in.
The Wide Glide Outer doesn't have this neck since it doesn't have the hole for the shifter shafter. Using the WG outer on a mid inner, there is nothing to seal that neck, therefore it will leak primary fluids.
Frozen Chrome,
Watcha gonna do with your stock chrome outer primary cover? It would sure look perty on my FXD. Let me know if you are interested in selling it!
