Ride it easy the first few miles, no holeshots, try to keep the revs down to a reasonable level and enjoy it. It needs a little time for rings and all to seat properly, but if you ride reasonably, not like you stole it, you should be fine. It's also important to vary the speed and revs and not take it on a 200 mile trip at the same speed and rpm's for the entire trip. Use your head and you'll do okay.
I was told that you should ride below 50 MPH for the first 50 miles. Then you could go ahead and give it a little more speed but just don't get the RPMs too high until you hit 1000 miles. After the 1000 mile maintenence you can ride it any way you want.
I own a 2006 street bob, and I would like to know what the proper break in procedure is for the engine. I have heard two different things.
Hi Kris. My advise would be to follow your owners manual. You'll no doubt get conflicting responses to that question, but I think the moco knows best. jmo
One thing that I disagree with the moco is waiting to the 1000 mark for the first oil change. By 250 miles, break in material grit is in full force and clearly felt in the oil and seen on the oil plug magnet. Heat and friction during break in makes already marginal oil even worse.
I will agree with you, I changed at 100 miles then at 500,then let the moco due their 1000. Oil is cheap, to help the motor.

I'm with you on that RWP. Double it up before the 1k is even better can probably skip the filter in this senario. On Brit twins I've built, I change the oil at 50 miles no exceptions.
On another note, I'm on a mission to figure out a way to scavenge all of the old oil out of these '06 Dyna motors. Even if it means doing a back to back oil change a day apart to get as much of the old stuff out of the engine. Expensive solution but worth it IMO.
I just did my 250 mile change to Mobile-1 V-twin today. It took 3 quarts of the synthetic and it irks me that I have 1.5-2 quarts of break in oil still in the bike. [:@]
