Default first harley

new here, so here comes the stupid newbie questions. just bought my first harley after riding one of those other brands. its a 1998 lowrider with screaming eagle (i call em drag pipes) pipes. i don't know what kind of spark plugs to run or what to gap them at. it pops when you let off the gas almost sounding like it is backfiring. this maybe normal and everyone is getting a good laugh but heck i gotta learn sometime and i sure can't afford to take it to the shop. any help would be most welcomed. thanks!

popping on decel means you are lean. Just needs to be re-jetted. Get amanual, some jets and tools, along with taking your time, and you will learn your bike better, and can fix it for cheap. Sometimes, I wish I'd have gone with a carb instead of EFI. 1998 was the last year for the Evolution motor......they make everything imaginable for the Evo's. Good luck!

Congrats on your first HD. Pull up a chair, sit, listen, and learn. Enjoy!

I have a 98 evo bike too, the carbs are very easy to get off and service. I think you can even change jets with out removing the carb...been awhile though, I could be wrong.

It sounds simple, but you may want to check your air filter to make sure its not soaked in oil or dirty
