Learned a lesson !!!!
Hey all, Its been a while since I have posted anything on here , ButI had to share this 1 wih you. Those of you that know me or my bike know how I take care of it
. In August last year I lost a seal in the trans output shaft. I just happened to notice a tiny bit of seapage ( No drips or puddles). So I pulled the trans apart and replaced it. Instead of putting the good old thick trans oil back in it. I let an Indy talk me into putting in the Amsoil 3 in 1 oil in it. Well about 1000 miles later at Myrtle beach fall ralley I was driving along and my trans locked in second gear. I tug and jerked the shifter but it was stuck. I babied it back to my hotel. After removing the top cover and looked inside I was horrified!!!! most of my gear teeth were ground away and stepped. I drained the oil ( Which looked like cottage cheese water filled with metal shavings. I was able to brake loose 2nd gear and filled the trans with the good old 75-140 and babied it around the rest of the time I was there. Well in the mean time I got a killer deal over Christmas on a Baker 6 speed on e bay.It was new in the box but missing all instructions. Its 1 of the 1s that fit in the dynas stock case.Well the swap looked good on paper except for 1 thing, The Trans input shaft is not long enough for the fat tire I have on the bike ( Needed a 25 MM Extended 1 ). I called Baker and they told my they would get around to making the longer shafts in a few years. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and found out that with some modifications I could use the 5 speed extended shaft. So after 2 days of machine work and a tad bit of TIG welding I finnished assembly tonight. Now I cant wait to take her out for a spin and see what that extra gear feels like LOL!!!!

Het Jake! I feel it was the the oil was not thick enough and broke down under the pressue of the gears. I'm not knocking Amsoil in any way other than that oil of that weight shouldn't be in a trans. There bottle in my opinion should not include trans on its labeling . But with 3000 mile with he heavy oil before there was no sign of wear r ground metal in the trans.

Going with Redline myself this spring. My indy guy uses it faithfully and he is definitely not one torecommend anything in a customers bike he doesen't run in his own. I mentioned Amsoil to him today and he is n't real high on their stuff.
Im Looking for a Redline dealer locally. Baker recommends Redline in there Trans so I hear.

sorry to hear that happened Jim and at all times during the rally. well guess it pays off to have the equipment and the know how to fix the problem, but from seeing your bike in person it doesn't surprise me that you could do about whatever you wanted toyour bike.
Glad it all worked out in the end for you despite the hassle and hard work - let us know what you think of the new trans after some miles - Good luck and thanks for the heads-up on the tranny oil.
