Default Wheel Question

I own a 99 FXDWG and it has the non sealed bearings in it. WHat I am wondering is, can i put the newer sealed bearing wheels on it? Why I am asking is because i am in need of a front tire and my brother in law has the front wheel off of his 2002 Night train that I can get since he went to a thunderstar wheel. This would make it really easy because I can just go to the bike shop and get a new tire and tube and mount it myself and put it on then put it on the bike. I know its going to be asked, why dont you just pull your wheel and tire off go get the new tire and throw it back on...well I would like to switch to the sealed bearings for maintenance reasons. Also while I am asking, can the same thing be done on the rear? I am looking for an afttermarket wheel for the rear and have seen some I really like but they are for the 2000 and newer bikes. Sorry for the long post,
Thanks
Andy

IIRC, the axle diameter changed when they went to the sealed bearings. Don't know how that would affect mounting the new wheels on the forks. Might not fit the forks.

I don't know about this application- but TIMKEN has specs on all their bearings- and usually you can cross the non-sealed to the newer design..Maybe not a Harley Part Number, but doable. Downside is if you have a problem on the road, Harley shop probably would not stock the bearing although every autoparts store would!

yes you can get sealed bearings, that will allow you to put 00 and newer wheels on earlier bikes, did it on my sporty and my eglide.

p.s. in some cases you may have to have a new spacer made in the wheel between the bearings
