Did this back at Christmas. Be prepered to spend a full day on it. You will have to remove everything left side including the clutch and flywheel. There is a tool to lock the clutch and flywheel in place to loosen and tighten the bolts. I did not have this but cut a piece of wood similar in length and it seemed to work fine. Make sure you have the shop manual before you start this. I really had no idea until I got into just what all was involved. It wasn't hard, just took all day to do. They are great when its done!

Do a search on forward controls under the Dyna section.
You do not HAVE to remove the primary and there are links here to give you a few tips to keep the install clean.
I have a set of forwards coming and will be leaving the mid shaft in (I don't want to pull the primary apart).

Cheers

I bought my Fwd's from Zanotti's and saved $60.
They got here monday evening at 5:00
They were on before dinner.

No way in hellI would pay the Stealer $300+ to do it.

If you can change your spark plugs, you can do it.

Oh, I went with the OEM set, though the Kury's are nice too.

Get the bike and find some used highway pegs. Ride it for a short while and get a chance to use both foot positions. If you like the position of your feet on the highway pegs, you will probably like the forwards. The highways pegs should be easy to resale and recoop your money if you buy the forwards.

a m8 put them on last week and got footpeg vibration from the brake arm moving side to side , we fixed it with a hand made thin rubber washer between the brake arm and the footpeg mount , looked like somthing was missing .

Wow...$300, that's cheap compared to what they told me. They wanted a total of about $1000 to put forwards on, parts and labor.

Ride the bike as-is to start with. Get used to it and get a feel for how your legs feel in that position. If you can score some used or borrowed highway pegs, you could sort of see what forwards would be like or you may even find you like them better with the controls at mid position with highway pegs for cruising. There are lots of options. You could get forwards and leave your mid pegs. If you get Kuryakyn forwards, none of the mid-shift components have to be removed from the bike so you can easily go back to mid controls if you decide you don't like forwards.

Not to ask an overly dumb question, but what the hell, it's never stopped me before. I have an engine guard on my 08 FXDC, has anyone had problems with using the forwards with an engine guard? I saw that Kuryakyn says that their forwards won't fit with an engine guard which is kind of a bummer since the Kury's are really sharp and appear to install much more easily than the H-D ones.

It may depend on the brand and style of engine guard. I believe I saw someone post a while back that, although the Kury website said they won't work, he was able to put the forwards on with his engine guard. It's a simple matter of clearance. You can probably see where the brake pedal is in my sig pic. Here is another pic showing the shifter side. Does it look like it conflicts with where your engine guard is on your bike? Keep in kind you have to leave room for pushing the rear brake forward and downward.

Greg, thanks for the pictures and information. It looks like the issue may be a combination of where the forwards are installed and the clearance that you mentioned. The brake and shifter levers on the H-D forwards don't seem to be as wide as the Kury's. That may bethe issue. I've attached a couple of pictures of my bike. I'd appreciate your thoughts on them. Sorry the pics aren't clearer.
