Tamarack lowering kit
Truly new to this -- both to this site and to Harleys in general, so please take it easy on me if this is a stupid question.
I just bought a 2008 Street Bob and this is my first Harley. Not wanting to finance a "toy", I saved until I could buy it outright. Thing is, now I have shot the proverbial wad buying the bike itself and need to save cash for each mod to make it mine. Eventually I want to go with some pipes and some apes, but for now I am looking for the "most bang for the buck".
I discovered a company called Tamarack from a thread on this forum -- www.tamarackmw.com. They make lowering blocks for the Bob that can drop it either 1 inch or 1.75 inches. A rather dramatic visual change for relatively little money. Wanting to make the biggest impact, I would like to drop it the full 1.75 inches, but even the Tamarack website tends to warn against this. Not only do they claim you'll lose two up riding, but they even warn you if you weigh over 180 pounds (think I weighed over 180 in high school).
Has anyone done this or used the Tamarack lowering blocks? Would like input from those who have lowered their Bobs. Want to make the biggest visual impact, but now that the news is out that I have bought a Harley, I already have some lady friends asking for rides and don't want to lose out on that either. Before everyone starts talking air shocks, yes, I wish I could do that, but money is tight and I can run these lowering blocks with the stock Harley shocks and get the look I am going for without needing to take a second job to buy air shocks. Has anyone done this? What did you think? Please give me some input so I can order a few mods before it warms up enough here in Minnesota to actually get this new Bob on the road.

Since the bob comes lowered an inch out of the box, are you sure you want to take it further?
I have a stock height FXD and I'm dragging parts in the turns. I might consider the one inch to your level, but any lower and I'll be buying stock in Band Aid.

DROP IT!!! devils haircut did this on his bike came out great! I went with air shocks and dropped it about 2.5 inches... looks sick! i had to redo the wires under my rear fender but it looks 10X's better! nothing like riding LOW... the lowering blocks run you about 75 then 25 shipping when air shocks will run you 135 from forum sponsor eastern performance then another 50 for the fittings and hoses from HD... may be worth it to save a bit longer... IMO the air shocks where and still are the BEST MOD i have ever done to my bike... everyone that has sat on it or rode it says the same thing! it is like floating on a cloud!
Whoa...I was under the impression that air shocks were a lot more than that. What can you tell me about them? Have you had any problems? Like them? How difficult were they to install? And what would I need to get to go this route?
By the way, your bike looks great! Like I said, I spent my money on buying the bike. Good feeling knowing it's mine, but now I want to add mods and don't have the cash. I am going to get my air cleaner done by Mud -- great look for $20! Also going to order a 2 inch tank lift from Jackyl here soon -- another cheap mod that gives good bang for the buck. Ordered a license plate mount that forms to the rear fender (more of a clean look) from a forum member for $20 as well. There are several good mods that can be done cheap and make a dramatic impact to the looks.
I just want to go with that low look and was under the impression that air shocks were really expensive. That is why I was looking into the blocks from Tamarack. I was curious to know whether or not the 1.75 inch drop (again, more bang for the buck) causes too many other problems to boot. I do want to ride two up occasionally -- don't want to lose that option. Kind of figure I paid a lot for the bike, now maybe the bike can start paying me back in other areas if you know what I mean. If it weren't for going two up, I'd drop this thing as low as I could go in a heartbeat. Let me know your input!
