Why would one do that; just to expose themselves to ridicule to the first guy who knows a thing about H-D?
For a while I thought to myself: maybe I should get a set of the 'panhead' or 'knucklehead' rocker covers and a 'generator' cam cover made by Exzotic (which do look pretty cool) ... but, I don't really want to be considered a poser once someone is on to me.
Yeah, I really like Pans and Knucks, but I think I'll just wait another few years until I actually decide to buy the genuine article.
I think it's one thing to go with a functioning suicide set up, but another thing altogether to just fake it. One reason I might consider going with a jockey shift is to get the left handlebar cleared off ... still have to think of something to do with the turn signal (unless you take them off), high beam and horn!
Don't even think about a Jockey shift if ya get stuck on the upside of a steep hill. It does present a rather interesting scenario. Can ya tell I rode in Frisco in the 60's LOL
There is a companyout ofRacine Wisconsin that puts a modified Hurst shifter (from cars) onto bikes. The clutch lever is actually on the shifter itself thereby eliminating the need for a foot shift. The name of the company is ASI Customs -- they don't have a website, but their phone number is 262-498-5229. This guy actually specializes in tricking out Street Bobs and you should see his stuff -- custom pipes, velocity stacks, springer front ends, single sided swing arms, jockey shifters, you name it. Before you ask, no, I am not affiliated with his company -- just stumbled across some of his work and it is amazing -- thought I'd share.
I think that a true jockey shifter comes right off the tranny so you reach it behind the left leg. The suicide part was the clutch.. overcenter foot clutch with the heel part removed... you plush it just a bit too far & you're in the middle of the intersection = suicide. The one pictured would be a tank shifter.
