Totally different battery in 01 than what they contract for nowadays.
Hold on to it, because once it finally does die, your next one will likely be number 2 of 7 in under 10 years........

Thanks for that heads up........ticks me off when they change something which has proved reliable just to save a few bucks.......When this one goes......its aftermarket for me.

Mine is still original and mine is a dyna superglide with 38,000 and I purchased it in oct.97 and no battary tender. I live in NJ and she still starts up after 1 or 2 months of no riding

If I know Im not going to ride for quite awhile (Jan-1st March) I pull the battery and put in my tool cabnet in the house. When I put it back in the bike, it fired right up and been going strong ever since.
