I guess everyone's definition of touring is different. I have taken mine out for a 10 day ride covering over 3000 miles. If that fits your definition of touring, my Dyna did a great job.
the dyna models are great for touring. this is what i do for when iam touring on vacation. everything is detachable, takes less then 2 minutes to install eveything (tour-pak, stereo, saddles bags and windshield), i also use a t-bag for the top of the tourpak. then when i get to were iam going, i remove it and throw it in the tent, then i have my streetbike stripped down(pic in sig). here is a pic of my tourbob. plus it didnt cost me 20,000 for a tourbike . jackyl
Done 1,200 and 2,000 on mine since I got it in August last year. It's great. I use a different set up than jackyl - Willie & Max T-bar bag on the sissy bar & a waterproof rafting duffle bag on the seat. Have to remove the Motherwell rackto get the sissy bar on and put the pillion on there, but am working on that. Have the Mustang narrow seat and only wish I had gone to the backrest version. 11 hours in the saddle is no big deal & I'm 62.
The dyna is a touring sport bike.
Add bags, detachable windshield, floorboards, cushy seat,and........you have a dresser with great suspension.
Take it all off.........You have a very large sportster.
Could have got whatever I wanted; got a clean 1 owner FXDXT and made some mods. Wife and I didabout 6000 miles on 4 2-up tours last summer, twice were 1 week and we're looking foreward to more this year. Tried a RK for a day; she liked the huge windscreen; I didn't like the sluggish performance (by comparison; I have a 103) and the immense weight...and I can strip mine down to a solo cruiser in minutes.
Mine has been to Sturgis (from Maryland 3 times) once home by way of Texas. The trick is getting the right set up. High sissy bar, T bags as a back rest, good touring seat, forward controls. It'll definetely do the job.
