Any recent work or mods done by you or anyone else? Are the shocks a new add-on?

Check the tranny lube. It's probably gear noise.

did you recently adjust the primary chain?? i;ve noticed that a few times ive miss judged the tight spot in the chain when i adjusted it and it was too tight which resulted in a whine and low speeds (ie. slowing down and at a stop idling) so if you had check that and fix it soon almost better to be loose than tight cuz it stresses the main shaft bearing in ways its not ment. there be me 2 cents hope it helps..

Are you in first gear, with the clutch lever pulled in, coasting to a stop?

That whine is normal.

Putting shorter shocks on changes the angle of the swingarm. As a result, the tension on the drive belt also changes. This could be your whine. Check and adjust tension, if necessary.
