Tom, tons of options out there to get your Harley to sound like one. Tons of different sounds and levels of loudness and price ranges as well. You can go with simple slipon mufflers that make it louder or full pipes. The best way to find out what suits you is to look and listen to other bikes and then find out what they have if you like them. Many of the manufacturers also have sound clips you can listen to over the computer. Or a lot of people have posted videos on youtube where you can listen to them. You won't get the full effect overa computer, though.

It's hard to go by other people's opinions because you have your own expectation of what you want in sound and volume and it may not be what someone else thinks your bike should sound like. You can go from mild to wild depending on what you get.

Clip baseball cards so they hit the spokes?
Why not just do that with credit cards, I mean they'll be useless once they are maxed out with all the accessories you "have" to buy to make your Harley sound like a Harley.

Do I detect a hint of bitterness? Nobody said YOU HAVE to do anything. All I know is that I did and most WANT to.

Question from a Newbie: I would like a little more noise as well but like the looks of the stock exhaust. How do the inserts work? Do they increase the sound level much?

Thats funny!!!! You beat me to it.......[sm=happybounce.gif]

I installed Rush slipons with the 1.75 " baffles. They are plenty loud for me. I think they have a good rumble and bark pretty good when you get in to it....

But again it comes down to personal preference as to what sound you like. Agree on finding different bikes with different set ups so you can hear them in person. Clips are ok but you don't get the real feel ( IMO ).

Later,
Joe

Ya, those pipes are pretty anorexic. Looking to change mine out too but trying to find a black option other than the short shots. REALLY want a set of Big Radius or the curved Hookers but they dont come in black.
Check these sideshots out sniper - they come in black for dynas now. According to the website, they make big radius in black as well but they don't show up under dyna so I don't know if they are available for dyna or not.

No bitterness here, I love my V&H BSS. I just grew up around Harleys in a time before the EPA reared their ugly head. And I was attempting to humorously one up the baseball card comment! I guess I shouldn't quit my day job!
