I would suggest saving the extra cash they're selling for the blacked out stuff and having it powder coated yourself. You can probably save a few bucks doing it that way.
Ya, those pipes are pretty anorexic. Looking to change mine out too but trying to find a black option other than the short shots. REALLY want a set of Big Radius or the curved Hookers but they dont come in black.
Check these sideshots out sniper - they come in black for dynas now. According to the website, they make big radius in black as well but they don't show up under dyna so I don't know if they are available for dyna or not.
I e-mailed Vance and Hines about the Big Radius in Black for Dynas and they said that they will be rolling those out at the end of the year. They are available now for softails!!!

Question from a Newbie: I would like a little more noise as well but like the looks of the stock exhaust. How do the inserts work? Do they increase the sound level much?
Remove the baffles if you want it louder or get a set of Screaming Eagle slip on taper mufflers. They add a little more loudness but you neighbors will still like you. They retain the look of the original exhaust.
Since you like the look of the stock exhaust Cycle Shack slip-ons would work for you, louder and good performance. You can get them for $100-$150 for the pair new.
I'm running the tapered ones so they look stock, they are a little shorter and a lot lighter.
Check them out. www.cycle-shack.com
I think someone on here had a used set for $60 for sale. Try a search on here and see what come up.
Go with the Rush slipons 2" or smaller baffles bolt on and ride.
+1 on the Rush (or any other)slipons. Areasonably inexpensive way to "audition" increasedsound levels. Besides, if it's just noise and not necessarily performance you're looking for--and I get the sense from your post that it is--these'll do you just fine. And, from what I've read (and experienced), anything 2" or less baffle size doesn't require any sort of re-mapping, change of a/c, etc.
Here's a link to Rush's website....take a listen to the different sizes.
I'll just second the Cycle Shacks. They are veryinexpensive, quality chromed, loud but not deafening, no pissing with the air or fuel....and if they fall off you can start over!
