Ok for starters I have an ’08 Street bob and a HD forward kit.  \\; I did a search and found some really good threads on the installation but I had a few ?’s . I wanted to install them like some have done without removing the primary. One thread I read had photo that are no longer linked.  \\; Does anyone have any pics of this installation process? Like what bolt to wedge the shifter under and where to cut? Also any advice would be greatly appreciated.  \\; Thanks,  \\;Tony
Don- I don't have any pics on how I did it, but I will explain as best as possible. \\; You are correct, you don't have to remove the primary. \\; Remove your shift lever and remove the shift linkage. \\; Once that is done you should be able to slide the shaft that goes through the primary back and forth. \\; Push it in as far as you can. \\; Now, your option, but I used a sawzaw (as carefully as possible) and cut the shaft between the inner primary and the rest of the bike. \\; There isn't much room, but with a long enough blade (8") you can do it. \\; After that you slide the piece out the front and the other piece will fall out the back. \\; Also, you don't have to remove the shifter from the tranny. \\; Just use the one thats already there. \\; I promise, it will work fine. \\; And when you go to get a new shift linkage (not the chesey one from the kit) be sure to get the longer one. \\; The shorter one is for pre '06 bikes. \\; If you have any more questions let me know.
I removed the primary. \\; It was actually pretty easy once I had all the correct tools, seals, service manual, and fluid. \\; For some reason I was leary of taking a saw to my bike.
The outer primary is pretty straightforward, but the inner is the b**ch. \\; That is a lot of work for somenone who isn't a mechanic and over confident with their ability. \\; I'm a diesel mechanic in the Navy, and I didn't want to f**k with the inner. \\; Anyway, do what you will.
I don't have the pics any more, but I slide the old shifter arm in all the way. \\; Then forced it behind the bolt coming out of the crank case. \\; There's only one bolt that it will fit behind. \\; I rode like this for two years without any problem.
