I'm thinking of trading in my 2005 softail springer classic for a super glide custom. \\; I sit on my wifes lowrider and it feels so light and sporty but the way I have her's set up it hurts my back to ride I was wondering how the custom would feel on long trips, first change would be forward controls am I nuts
I'd go for it. Love mine anyway. I put the fwd controls on mainly becuz my knees r shot &\\; i can't keep them bent that long. I had to change out the stock seat as well, it isn't the greatest for longer trips. Longest trip i've made on it so far was 403 mi in one day &\\; was comfy all day.

I don't think you are nuts. \\; The springer is cool but if you like something else better, buy it. \\; How the bike will feel to you depends on how you set it up. \\; Everybody's preferences are different but I prefer the feel of my solo setup. \\; However, I wouldn't be very comfortable on a long trip like that. \\; So, I have a cushier seat, detachable sissy bar that I can mount a nice sized bag on, and a windshield. \\; I hate the look of my bike like that and the riding position is nowhere near as sporty feeling. \\; But, I can ride a long way in comfort with that setup.
First maybe put forwards on hers and buy a new "used" seat that you like. Try that before trading in. Once its gone its gone. Would kick your self if you didnt like it better.

Her lowrider should have highway pegs on it. \\; That should give you a pretty good idea of where your feet and legs will be at with forwards. \\; You just won't have to move your feet back and forth to shift and brake. \\; Of course the bars are different and the LR is a little lower than the FXDC but I've changed my bars and lowered mine with LR height shocks anyway.
well, only you can decide, but I am 6'4, and love the fxdc, switched to a mustang touring saddle, had forwards done at purchase, added a fender rack ( that can swap for a pillion when needed with 2 screws, and some bags that clip to my rack in 10 seconds. just added the qr touring shield, and my favorite new addition, switchblade pegs with flip open stirups... they made a huge difference in long distant comfort. I can go from bagger to stripped down in less then a min.
Love the Dyna class and I really like my Fat Bob! First Harley I had was a Super Glide.....it was a great bike. Sold it and got a Bagger, now I am back on a Dyna!!
Love, love, love my FXD. \\; I'm 5'10" so its higher seating is fine for me but my husband is 6'4" and has a Street Bob that sits lower...he prefers it... \\; I think it's up to what you feel most comfortable on. \\; I did switch out my seat to a Corbin Hollywood Solo and put 10" Wide Glide bars on it too.... \\; Now, it's PERFECT!
