Default OIL TEMP??? WHY??

I am new to my HD and I saw a digital oil temp probe at the dealership yesterday.&nbsp\\; Why would you need to know the temp of your oil??

Oil probes have been out for decades, all part of the diagnostic process. Back in the early '90's I was a certified auto mech. Our diagnostic machine had an oil probe on it, along with about a billion other probes to help diagnose unknown issues.

Some of us are info junkies\\; some want to monitor how our engines behave at different speeds, ambient temps, altitudes, solo/2-up, in different gears, and any combination of the aforementioned and more.

The prob also makes checking oil level much easier.&nbsp\\; Especially when hot.
Mine works fine but there is a history of failures.

I don't know how thousands of harleys with over 100,000 miles have survived without a oil temp probe.......including mine. I guess i'll have to get one so i can worry about a worthless number that the amb temp has full control over.............naaaaa......I'll just ride
