I did mine with the heat shields off. Can't say for sure if it's easier, but it was no big deal to install them after. I would rather do it after so less risk in damaging a heat shield during install.

You won't be able to get to one of the bolts on the rear cylinder with the heat shields on.

better w/out the shields especially when getting those pesky header bolts threaded. After the shields go on pretty easily

Just put vance and hines big radius on my Street Bob yesterday!!! I talked to JRK about alot of things he is very informative and I appreciated his help...Install the heat shields after you have the pipes on the bike, the rear and front cyclinder bolts are kind of a pain with the heat shields on *on my stock pipes* and all this is comming from what JRK said to me. Def get some anti sieze and some exhaust gaskets they are def not reusible...Take your time and line them up and make sure everything is tightened down after everything is lined up of course. I have the link for directions if you didnt get these new http://www.vanceandhines.com/download/D515IN.pdf GOOD LUCK And I know you wont be dissapointed

Just use new gaskets, they are cheap and easy to replace.

Just like some of my ex-girlfriends.
