Hey bro, I put my bike on reserve while I was in Iraq as well.....the way my situation panned out, I didn't have the opportunity to customize my Bob ahead of time, as it came up available at the last minute, and was already built and ready to ship.

When I took delivery at the dealership, I asked the salesman about the security system, and he actually said that for $300, I was better off doing performance mods. He didn't recommend it at all. Since all it does is cut the ignition, it's still not gonna keep someone from jacking your bike...if someone wants it they'll get it; all it takes is 6 guys and a pickup truck.

Just my 2 cents...stay safe.

DG,

I would get the Security System Smart Siren II with the pager just to add a little peace of mind. One of the more important reasons for me is that the siren/alert will likely go off even if someone decides to just sit on or mess around with my bike. I simply don't want anyone messing with my bike when I am not around.

One of the comments on this thread mentioned that no one pays attention to alarms. While this may be true at the Walmart parking lot, I have found that people pay attention to alarms where a lot of bikes are parked, such as motorcycle rallies.

One note of caution on the alarm is that my alarm occasionally tries to go off when I shut down the bike and the system momentarily loses contact with the fob. To remedy this, I pause 2-3 seconds when I shut down and slow down my dismount to reduce the chances that the loss of contact will occur.

I suppose I am trying to talk you into getting the alarm. We cannot enjoy the bikes while they are sitting in a garage, so let's reduce the anxiety of taking them where we want. There are no absolute guarantees to prevent theft, but at least we can say we did what we could to prevent it if and when it does.

I presume you are in Iraq serving our country --- please accept my gratitude for the sacrifices that you and your family make to protect our nation. You have earned to opportunity to enjoy that bike you return home.

You can program a secret code into your bike so that even if you forget your fob, you can deactivate the alarm. It's not hard at all.

The Fat Bob I just bought and will be picking up in a few days (YES) has the security system. I don't know if it helps but it does make it harder for crooks because of the ignition cut off. Yes ... if a crook really wants the bike they'll get it ... but anything I can do to make it harder for them is worth it in my book, including locking the front wheel. And when you consider the price of the bike the added alarm isn't that much more $$. PLUS ... it will help save on insurance every year so you get some of the expense back right away and over time, if you keep the bike long enough it could pay for itself. This is my 1st Harley ... I didn't give a rats butt about security systems on my other brand bikes because they weren't at high risk but everyone wants a Harley!!! I may add the actual alarm option in the future (right now it's just the ignition cut off, no loud alarm) but right now it's nice to at least have the ignition cut off.

I have it, the only drawback is that it drains the battery. If you do not start the bike at least once a week, the battery will die on you.

I put the one with the siren on myself. Don't if it works for thieves. Kinda like it to deter unwanted curious people from sitting on or screwing with the bike.

I have gone at least two weeks between starts without any problems. Have never put my battery on charge yet.

My Low Rider rarely goes more than a couple of weeks between starts, but I would anticipate needing to get a battery tender if I anticipated going 3-4 weeks between starts due to the alarm system.

I have the alarm wth siren on mine, and I also had LoJack installed. If my bike moves with out the fob around it activates and sends a signal to LoJack, they call me and then the law...About 900 bones to get the system and have it installed. Never have to pay again..
