Default suspension question

I recently got a 2000 superglide. After making changes with seats and bars I really like this bike. I also have an electric glide, so thats the reason I thought the ride is so bad on the dyna. I contacted the mechanic who has serviced the bike from day one. He told me the bike had been lowered front and rear, and thit reverseing this procedeure would make a big difference in the ride and handleing effects. Can any of you guys confirm this or should I start off by buying new shocks. Any advice based on personal experance will be appreicated. Dan

well different shocks will change the ride of any machine... more ride height will also allow for longer travel which should give you increased suppleness over larger bumps provided the shocks work well in their travel and are set up properly... funny thing is you might find your bike to ride much better by simply increasing the preload on your rear shocks... If you do not have enough preload your bike will sag too much and feel like crap... I have 11"progressive HD shocks on mine and when I set my preload too soft the ride was much worse.

My FXDXT rides better than my buddies RK Custom...more supple suspension with longer travel. Also, I've got way more adjustments to work with...Generally, more travel controlled properly will give a nicer ride. And when things get real twisty, I crank up the dampening and pre-load and I'm gone.....
