A good Harley mechanic can do it in about 2-3 labor hours.
If you have the tools and the lift, get the service manual.
You can do it.
its not that bad of a job, check the tech section. they have a good step by step there. thats what i did last winter and looks great. little messing but not that hard. jackyl
Why are you not asking how to improve your suspension than when assembling the forks put on chrome parts. Chrome does nothing for the performance of your bike and it is just the same work to improve your ride and handling drastically at the same time. I believe yur bike was made to ride and not to set in front of the bar just to look at. Cheap to do once you have the forks apart and will yield better results and pleasure that just looking at poor chrome suspension.
I Don't drink. don't go to bars and can get kit really really cheap. Now that that's out of the way, Tell me how I can improve my front suspension. suspension is new to me.
There is lots to know and lots of choices. The quality of your suspension determines how well your bike rides over bumps, tracks around the corner, and stops without diving like your bike does. I own a bike like yours and I hate to ride it as I have other modified Harley's. Since you are new to riding, which I was unaware of, safety and performance is a good thing. One half of the cost is labor on superior suspension and since you are already there and have it apart, spend some money and do the job. You and your passenger will love it as well as a safety issue addressed. Any more you can go to my web site and research the subject if you realy wish to learn more about the subject. If you are unclear, you can always have the option of calling toll free.
I installed my own front end chrome kit. Obviously, the sliders were toughest. After getting a quote from my stealer, I bought a Sears yellow lift and a few new tools and did it myself using the service manual. I saved cash, still have the tools, and the satisfaction of having done it myself.
While the bike was apart, I installed Progressive springs to tune up the ride a bit. Get a service manual and look it over before you do the work. It took me about two hours to do the entire thing. You can always ask questions here. There are a few tricks and tips to make things easier in the absence of some of the specialize HD tools.

I love the fact that you saved the money that you would have spent by allowing someone else do the work! You spent the money on tools and performance upgrades and received personal satisfaction. Good for you!!!! Now only if we can talk you into Linear springs, shocks, 131 ci or better still 155 ci unit, Carbon Fiber wheels........... carry on>>>
