I am going to buy a 2009 FXDC (superglide custom) and want to put some kind of fairing on the front. Anyone know who offers something like this? Vetter, etc.
tried the dealer?
by fairing, u mean windshield/deflector rite? if u have a friend that has windshield on his dyna, try it out first. coz, a lot of helmet buffeting issues have been around.
I was going to start a thread on this very subject. I have a 2000 Lowrider and would like to have a fairing (already have a windshield) with radio and speakers. Fact is I am already thinking about a touring bike with that being one of the reasons.
So I am watching to see if anyone has any recommendations for a fairing or a company that makes them.
there are several companies that make them as the post above . sw cycle audio makes one that fits a dyna but i never received a email back from them answering a few questions, SO i made my own mounts using the radio caddy faring . you can get it from jp cycles or granpas like i did ( granpas is alot cheaper ). Im into the project so far for about $450 not counting a radio and speaker that i haven got yet.
I used my quick detach windshield brackets and then fabbed up the rest. Not real hard , just time consuming trying to get the measurements right. The brackets in the one picture are temporary to get the right measurements ,I did the final brackets yesterday ( made out of better steel and hardware). I also added a tour pack ( cheap one from ebay). Everything can be taken off in about 15 - 20 minutes or so , then i can have my stripped down bob again lol
Pirate boy how much wind protection do you recieve from the fairing and could you post pics of the mods that you fabbed up?
Today is the first day i had a chance to really stretch the bike out. the wind protection seemed pretty good, i noticed in the light rain today it seemed to push alot more towards my knee area, chest stayed pretty dry. The windshield i have on is a 6" , the buffeting is not bad but im thinking i may go with a 8" . My wife said she gets more wind around her head VS the windshield.
Here is a few pics i took with a cell phone camera, i 4got the good camera while making the bracket ( DuH). Ill try and get some better pics tommorow.
THe last picture if of the quick detach brackets i used from Memphis shades while moving the turn signals and internally wring the bars
thanks JRK , Still lots of work to do but its coming together nicely. Having a windshield cut ( 2" higher) still need to wire up for the radio ect.... then paint, i think im gonna use bedliner on the backside then flat black the outside ofcourse lol . I picked up a SE 180 tire today to put on also :-)
