Default Instant Apes

I have a 2007 Wide Glide and I have been mulling over adding a set of apes. The only problem is that I don't have the time to install them (if I do it, I am going to do the chrome levers and master cylinder) and my honest local dealer wants to charge me for 8 hours labor. While I figured I would make it a winter project, there is no real winter here in Texas, so I ride almost every day.

I was washing the bike and looking at the bars and it came to me. How can I be so dumb? The bars are on an even plane with the triple trees. They are the stock mini-apes that come with the Wide Glide. I loosened the bolts on the risers and pushed them forwards. Then I loosened the hand controls and spun them back toward me. All of a sudden I have apes that are almost shoulder height. They are actually perfect. Of course one of the side effects is that I am sitting a little more upright that I was before, but that is a good thing for my posture. I love the new handlebar position and wish I had done it the day I got the bike. I think that the dealer sold it to me with the bars lower than usual and I never thought twice about it.

Anyone else figure something out this this one day and wish that you had done it a lot sooner?

Hell, I push my 16's forward for more reach.
Been doing it since I had the stock bars on.
Actually looks better if you ask me.

I agree, looks way better pushed forward. Mine are pushed forward quite a bit. Love the look.

what about your chrome controls? I have mine pushed foward. They are still too low and I want my hands closer... taking care of it.

I too have an 07 WG and I just changed out my mini-apes to 16's. It took me a few days time because I have a lil girl at home and could only work on it while she slept and if I ran into a problem again I had to plan going to the bike shop or lowes within the confines of having someone to watch the baby. I bet if you woke up early enough on a sunday, you could have it done by late afternoon. No reason to pay a shop 8 hrs time to do something you can do.
