Try checking a local chrome plating company for Black Chrome Plating. It's harder and lasts longer than paint though I do not know the cost. Good Luck !

A painter friend of mine has a bead-blaster. He's never charged me more than $15 bucks (that was for my heat shields)

By the way, I love chrome... my garage wall is covered with all the crome I took off!
