I have an 09 Street bob and was looking at putting some fwd controls. I see the HD ones and was wondering if there are any other brands out there that people like better? Also are those hard to put on?

I bought the Kurys for 30$ less than the hd's,they have more chrome and lok better imo, Im 6'2'' so i bought the 3+ extended ones and they work perfect, very easy install!
Kuryakyn forwards seem to be a popular alternative. I bought mine from eastern performance via ebay for $299 shipped and installed them myself in about 2 hours. The Kury kit is designed to be bolt on vs. requiring you to open the primary. The HD's are typically a bit more difficult to install but certainly nothing wrong with them. I've seen ridiculous dealer quotes for labor posted on this board to install HD forwards on dynas so be prepared to pay if you want the dealer to install them for you. I'm very happy with my Kury's. And by the way, I'm 6'4" and got the standard length forwards. It doesn't go by height, it's inseam and mine is 34" which is 1" over the recommended 33" for the extended forwards. But I like not having my legs so stretched out. Much better feel and control of the bike (for me).
I just reread your post..... Kury, HD, Custome chrome probably a few more make forwards.
just search on ebay, and you will find lots of options to research.

My point was that the Kury kit is DESIGNED to install without pulling the primary, it even comes with a bolt on cover for the mid-shifter spline. Comes with everything you need as a matter of fact, except the wrenches themselves. You can obviously do the same thing with the HD kit but you have to add a little of your own ingenuity and/or go hunting parts. Nothing wrong with that if it's what you want to do or need to do in the case of wanting black as I think the Kury's only come in chrome.
The kury forwards for dynas are the same part for all years but harley offers two sets of forwards 93-05 and 06-newer. Hd only offers the black finish on the 06-newer. I've got an 04. Is it possible to get the black finish forwards to work on the older models?
Best bet is to have the parts guy open the package and hold it up to your bike and see if the bolt pattern is right. The brake and shifter hookups should be the exact same.
the difference in the kits besides the black, and having to remove the primary, and the shifter linkage.
I have read about people putting the up to 05 kit on a newer bike, using the stock shifter rod, but needing a longer linkage.
So if you took the newer kit I imagine you would need a shorter linkage, one of the custom ones from hd for your year for example that probably only come in chrome...
but that's the difference that i understand it...
I'll probably get corrected if im wrong..
I was set on black, but now that they are on, i can see black or chrome both would have been fine on my bike..
