Just sitting at my desk and contemplating how to stop the wind buffing on my street bob. I have a detachable from Harley. I have come to the conclussion that no matter what I try nothing is going to help. It was not designed to have a windshield. The bikes that have them were tested in wind tunnels on thier designs to stop this. The reason that I am posting this I read all the time of riders trying any and everything to stop this but nothing is helping. I am not trying to be a smart a## but I hate to see people spend a lot of money. I hope I have not offended anyone with my views. I am 61 soon to be 62 (Gods Will) and I love the looks and ride of the dyna models. I have been riding off and on since I was 16 -17 yrs. of age.
I don't remember the part number but I got a wind deflector that was designed for the baggers. It is mounted under the triple tree. There was a post about this part, as you have to trim the part to fit around wiring.
The part was out in the parts area, along with all the other bolt on stuff.
I feel the same way. My solution was to limit the size of the windshield. I cut about 6" off the stock h-d shield and it seams to be a good compromise. It doesnt feel like I have a sail attached to the front end any more. And it keep the wind off your chest so long rides at highway speed feel more comfortable. On shorter ride I still take it off.

I've run a windshield on my bike for 18K miles and don't have any buffeting. I also don't have the H-D windshield but a cheap National Cycle shield that is adjustable forward and aft. The way I had it adjusted before the crash allowed the wind to go over my head leaving only my hands and arms to bear the wind.
Almost all of the air turbulence off my shield disappeared when I replaced my
seat. Somehow, sitting a little lower and a little further back has solved the
problem for me.
i have an 04 low rider with a detachable windshield i HATE the way the wind blows around yes it helps on those long rides and with the bugs but try and keep a bandana on your head no way and also if i wear my face bandana it just flys right up into my face.. I am thinking of getting a street glide do they have the same problems? i mean sometimes i cant hardly even see because my sunglasses will shake sooo much..
I suspect you realize there is a big difference between "wind" and "buffeting".
I get really bad buffeting on my Road Glide, as well as my Suzuki V Strom.
I have the "short" factory detachable shield on my Dyna. I do get wind, but not buffeting?? (I am 60, ride 35-40k a year, understand your frustration)
I have never noticed "buffeting" on the Dyna..not saying you don't it ...we are all different.
I have noticed I only seem to get buffeting with a full face helmet, which is what I nearly always wear. With a half melmet I just get wind. Do you wear a full face?
I had the Harley Quick Detach shield and I hated it .... both looks and function. Later, I went with a Memphis Shades Del Rio Sportshield and solved virtually all the problems I had with the first one. I think too many people assume that Harley is going to make the best shield for their bikes .... I happen to not think so. Also, it's easier to just pick a shield up at a dealer rather than order.
The MS shield is removable, but you can mount it much tighter down on the headlight to stop all that wind that just rushes through that gaping hole on the HD shield. With a new trim ring you can actually get the headlight to extend out past the MS shield as well.(pics in my album) Did the Memphis Shades make my bike ride like bagger? ... hell no ... bit's a far sight better than what Harley offers.
