Can the indicator light block (turn signals, neutral, high beam, etc) on an 08's FXD be replaced with five 12V LED's? I ask because the light block has a circuit board with components and surface mount LED's but I don't know it's function. The service manual does not go into enough detail on this. Has anyone replaced the "block" with regular LED's on an 08' or newer Dyna?
Are you trying to relocate the lights to somewhere other than the dash? If you can figure out which wire runs which light you can do just about anything you want with it.
Some have drilled holes in the headlight bucket and moved indicator lights there.
The led's should work but I would consult the electrical manual and a dealer or two before I dug into it. There have been some light relocation posts on here and vtwin so start searching. Just be sure to solder and shrink wrap your connections to keep the gremlins out or you will create a huge potential headache.
I've been dealing with this issue too. There have been posts on a couple of different relocations but they were all done with older style light bar. Those had individual bulbs (with 2 wires attached) that plugged into separate slots within a bezel and could easily be removed, relocated or different leds hooked up to those wires.
Like the OP said the light bar is a now a circuit board with clear leds (not bulbs but clear little crystal looking things) mounted right into the board and a bunch of wires soldered into the back of the circuit board. It's hard to explain what it really looks like if you don't see it. I'll try to post a photo later.

It should work fine as long as you get the right wires. The new wiring harness I put on my 08 FXD has each of the idiot lights seperate. It just plugged into the stock main harness and worked fine.
i used the stock harness, cut off the old lights and tapped on the new with wire ext... here is the pic i was trying to find earlier... i have more pics of the actual wire job at home as well if you need those
wkdavistx,
I installed Wild1 chubby 8" drag bars so I am trying to move the "idiot" lights from the stock "bar clamp/indicator light/speedo mount" to the dash on a FXD. The speedo will be mounted in a drag specialties DS-373864 single gauge mount but that leaves the "idiot" lights hanging out with no place to live. If the integrated idiot light block (5 surface mount LED's on a circuit board) can be replaced with 5 "normal" 12V LED's then I can figure a way to mount them on the dash between the tank fill and fuel gauge similar to what JRK5892 has done. So far it sounds like it is possible so I might just have to give it a try. More ideas and or confirmations would be appreciated....
Thanks everyone!
JRK5892,
When you say you "cut off the old lights" were they in a integrated idiot light block (5 surface mount LED's on a circuit board) or were they separate LED's from the factory?
I think more photos would help quite a few people with this so they would be appreciated.
Nice work BTW!
Columbia this is what the older style light bezel looks like. I believe they just pop out so they could plug into different bezels on different bikes like the one in street bob which is not as long or the FXDSE setup that bberk has.
