Default What am I missing..

Evening all.
Just wanted to drop by and introduce myself and get some advice from those in the know.
I've just purchased this 03' on-line and wondered if you could assist with a few questions I have as this is my first Harley…

Firstly, it seems to be a project where the unfortunately owner has ran out of money so apart from the following list, can you tell me what else is missing?
Front headlight and turn signals.
Instrument cluster and speedometer
Clutch, brake and throttle cables (some are there but I can’t see which ones).
Front Brake calliper.
It looks like the fuel gauge is missing however I’m not sure if the cap on the left may be a LED style fuel gauge?
It also looks like it needs a new shifter as that one looks bent so that’s also on the list.

Can you also tell me the brand of the front forks and if a standard brake calliper will fit them? And you’ll get extra points for the brand of the levers and switch block as I have no idea!
Does anyone know what the front guard is off or is it aftermarket?

And finaly, where is the best place to get said parts ie on-line salvage or ebay maybe...?

That’s about all I can think of right now of but I’m sure I’ll have many more questions when she lands down here in Australia…..

Welcome from San Marcos, Tejas. Gateway to the Hill Country & Devil's Backbone.

Gotta love them Wide Glides...

Looks to like you have a Wide Glide... Both the throotl cables are missing, Clutch cable is there but not hooked up. No head light or turn signals.... No speedo or Tach.. Looks like you have a little work ahead of you. Did you get to hear it run? Is it a carb or FI? Good luck on your new Project.

I think you bought a wrecked bike. I'd start with a 2003 model year service manual, and parts book too. Good luck.

I'd recommend you take the bike to a Harley dealer or independent shop and pay one hour's labor for them to tell you what you need in regards to normal safe operation and what you might need in regards to performance. Then you can make an informed decision. There's no way people on this forum can address what you need. Spend an hour's labor - it will save you time and aggravation.

Default thanks for the feedback

OK, here's a little more background for you.
The bike was purchased at auction and was a reposession. It was certified as operational with no visible damage and "as is". What you see, is what you get basically.
The reason it was favoured was because I have to replace lights, speedo, turn signals and a few others things to get it complianced to ride on Australian roads so the fact these were missing was no bother as I woudl have thrown them out anyway.

Hi Mike. Greeting's from Melbourne..Australia and thanks for your warm welcome.
It was certified as mechanically sound and as far as I can tell from the VIN, it's a carb model so nothing special.

Based on the new forks, guard and 80 spoke wheel, I'd say you were on the money Jason! It does however have a clean title!

Extra points for you JRK...
Yes, I figured that (re, your second comment) also but wondered if anyone could see any real obvious things so I could purchase them in the US and ship them in the crate at the same time.
I know there will be other things and it should be interesting when it finally lands.

Yep, agreed! I've been around and stripped bikes most of my life however they were all of the Muddy kind and I recognise my lack of knowledge in this area. To get it safe to ride on Ozzie roads, I need to get it to a workshop and legally passed anyway so that it's first stop before I even see it. In fact, it's heading to another state all together to be complied and then shippped down to me all finished as it's just easier. I'm just trying to save cost's and minimise what I can before it leaves the US.

Keep the comments coming poeple...
I'd till like to know who made the forks and weather or not a standard caliper will fit them so I can purchase one this week.

Cheers

Welcome from Augusta, Ga. home of the Masters!
You'll need the wideglide dash, speedo, it doesn't come with a tach, idiot lights. Ignition switch you can buy off ebay about $25US, don't waste your money on the H-D branded item it's over a $100.
The front end I have seen before but can't say where, sorry. The brake caliper would be a standard unit, you might want to upgrade that from the stocker since you have to buy one anyway.
The throttle/idle cables should be 4" - 6" over stock length, either would work. Just call H-D shop for stock length. DennisKirk.com is the best place to buy those, get the Magnum Platinum Chromite series, they are the sharpest I've seen. But a matching clutch cable, same 4" - 6" over stock, while you're at it. Buy a couple of clutch cable guides from the same website to fit your frame and hold the clutch cable on the downtube, get the downtube diameter from H-D.
You'll need a set of handgrips, there are a thousand choices of those and since it has the stock footpegs you might as well buy both, pegs and grips, so they all match your style.

I almost forgot the front brake line. Again go 4" - 6" over stock with that and get it from the same place as the other cables, same brand. You should probably get the same bend on the banjo fittings as the stock had.

That's about all I can tell from the pic. Good luck with it.

Could be it's not a wreck but a bike that belonged to someone who was financially over extended. Poor guy was probably in the middle of making it his own and lost it.
