DYNA SG- Lowering options
Stopped at the dealer this weekend to look at the SG and discuss the trade-in of my 2008 Sportster 883L. As I sat on the Dyna ...WOW - Seems Like much more bike than my Sporty - longer wider heavier......That's the GOOD AND BAD.
As the bike sat with the stock seat I could only touch the ground on with TIPS of my feet. If I move over to the DYNA --for financial reasons the only option is the SG ..(Lowrider not an option) Besides a SEAT and SHOCKS are these the only lowering options ??
How much can I really expect to lower the bike if I am only tippy toe to start ???
Due to my short legs am I destined for an 883L forever ?

Do you ride two up?
You can get a SG and put lower shocks on it! A lower solo seat, a few things you can do! I guess with a seat and shocks you can get a safe what 3 inches lower?!

A few companies make "slam" kits for about $100 give or take a few ....
They're just a little piece that mounts on the lower shock mount on the swing arm that moves the shock mount back and down a little. It changes the angle of the shock slightly and lowers the bike about an inch to one-and-a-half inches.
It seems they will increase the probability of bottoming out the wheel on the fender ... even more so if you have shorter than stock shocks with them.
Aside from the seat and shorter shocks, to the best of my knowledge those are the only way of lowering the rear of the bike.

I too had to stick with the standard Super Glide since Congress chose not to support my financial shortcomings with a personal bailout. I have changed the stock 12.6" shocks to 11" shocks. They made a major difference in stance height. I have also had a stock seat from a Low Rider on the bike. That lowered the rider position even more, plus it moved the rider forward. My wife is about 5' 4", and can sit on my Super Glide flat-footed.
you can lower the front and back . and fined another seat. you could get another 3'inches.and yes it is bigger and a few more pound's in weight.but you seat down in it and not on top of it. that does make it easier to manger the extra pound's.

Not that it hasn't been said, but you will be surprised with how much you can get with just seat mods.
I also went from a sporty to a dyna. With the higher center of gravity on the sporty, I never found I really noticed the extra weight.
