As I was getting ready to leave the house tonight on my way to work, I grabbed my helmet, jacket and gloves and headed out the door. I got all ready to ride, got on the bike and went to start it up and nothing happened, it just clicked. I went back inside grabbed a screwdriver and the battery charger and attempted to charge the battery for a couple of minutes hoping to get it running. The OL came out and started complaining about how cold it was going to be in the morning when I got off of work, as always I don't care about the cold, but after argueing with her for about 5 minutes and really needed to be headed to work I caved in and drove the truck. I just went outside to check a few things have,...and ole my god it is cucking fold out there, like 15 degrees and going to get colder by sun up. For once I am glad I let the OL talk me out of riding.
But the first thing I am doing when I get home is to get the bike up and running, Checking the cables first, then try and load test the battery, but if all of that passes I guess I would need some direction as to what to check after that.
If it has been a while since your last ride it probably just ran down. Especially if you have the security system. Also with it being so cold the battery has lass amps to turn over the motor.
PS I see you are a Patriot Rider. Thanks for your support for my fallen brothers and sisters.
I ride almost everyday, it has been dragging for about a month or so now and I have been lucky until yesterday and it had never let me down. Time to get out my wrenches and so whats going on
Yeah, 12 degrees in Md so the bike is resting comfortably in the garage.
If you have a multi-meter, check your voltage and amps on your battery (along with your cables). Not sure how old your's is but this cold weather and a battery with a little age may need a little help from a tender.
Thanks guys, I found the culprit, The ground strap was loose on the battery, just about stripped, so I guess my next purchase is a battery, before it bites me again. my battery voltage was good 13.9vdc, I also load tested the battery and it checks good. I got the ground terminal to tighten up, but as a precaution I am going to go ahead and price the battery through my local indy and get it on its way.
