I was riding with a few people yesterday and one guy had done that to his 883 sporty. Looked pretty cool but it was funny....all he talked about was buying a crossbones.
I agree that a true rigid frame will look better. However struts are a good way to decide weather you can handle riding a rigid. Not every one has the mechanical skill or cash to just buy a rigid frame but you can make a set of struts for next to nothing if you have a hack saw and good high speed drill.Personally I think home made struts made out of flat bar stock look better than the skinny round store bought ones.
a struted bike isnt going to hurt the bike, but it will kill your back, been there done that.it serves no purpose.either dyna or softail.i rode my shovel that way because i broke a shock.it was just a temp fix till i got some scratch for new shocks.i struted bike is alot worse than riding rigid.just my 2 cents.if your determined to do it.find some half inch flat stock drill it to match shock holes and give it a try.this way youll only be out a couple of bucks when you remove them
I have seen the welds bust on a swing arm cause of the rigid conversion. it can hurt the bike
the dynas wernt made to be rigid bikes. I have seen and heard a lot of bad stuff happen because of the rigid mod. looks cool. but it will hurt your bike in the long run
I've ridden my SE Dyna 1000 miles with PERCE 9.5 inch billet struts and I haven't had a single problem! They drop the bike to the lowest it can go. The seat heigh is 22" and the clearance on the rear tire is fine. The closest to the tire is the wiring harness coming out of the brake light housing and that has 3/8" clearance.
They come in 10.5 and 9.5 inch versions and are very well made. I bought mine from a friend, but I can find out where he got 'em.

Thanks for all the replys, good and bad... I just want them because I think its Fn cool and I like the old school look with new school dependability and power. I wanna go as low as possible so im gonna look to get the 9.5" and see how it looks. If I make my own, what type of metal do I need to buy so that its strong enough? When they say 9.5" does that mean that all I have to do is measure the metal and cut to that length? thanks again
