Not even 20 miles on the '09 FXD, and the right switch housing comes loose while riding. I noticed the right mirror was at a weird angle and shaking pretty bad, so I checked to see if it was loose. Imagine my surprise when the entire switch housing moved with it. Especially fun was discovering that the housing was at just the right angle to prevent me from using the brake.

Dude, why would that be common? Of course it's not. Fix it or take it in. Someone didn't tighten it down all the way.
Tighten it back up, and use some blue locktite. Almost everything on a Harley needs locktite to keep it from vibrating out. I think the dealership just missed it when they prepped your bike.
I wouldn't say it common, but it happens and I agree it shouldn't. When we got my wifes sporty last year her shift linkage bolt came out while we were riding. Lost it some where on the road but couldn't find it so we had to park the bike in a near by lot and truck it home. (It was saturday evening). Next day got the part from the dealer... they covered it under warrenty.... hahaha.
Anyways, the dealer was a applogetic and offered to fix it. But it was just a bolt, little locktite and we were back on the road.
The leason we learned there was. Its our bikes, our safety. Make sure our bolts are tight! We checke the bikes over every few weeks now and are more vigilant, especially with the shake on that sporty.
Remember the pre delivery inspection you paid for when you bought the bike, seems like the dealer missed it. Now what else did they miss?
Could not have said that better! when I got mine the clutch and brake handles were at a ****-eyed position , plus they did not give it a good shine I was so disappointed so I proceeded to check all the bolts and screws I could.... come to think of it , I have never gone back to them for anything in 2 years. I have another HD dealer closer so F..K them.
When I got home, I tightened it, and proceeded to go over the rest of the bike looking for other loose stuff (I did not find anything). I am kind of disappointed they missed this, and know that it could have been really bad if I needed to use the front break in a hurry.
Try the left side coming lose!! I was at a stop light and left housing slid and my clutch lever was now under the handle bar. I just held it up and tightened it finger tight and wrenched it down when I got home. I'm sure they don't check it all before they give it to you and my bike was one of their show display bikes and they had it for 8 months, so that was probably over time. I haven't had any issue since I tighted them down, but I do need to take them back off and put some lock on them.
When I bought my first new Harley in April 2007, I discovered that night that the headlight was aiming up in the sky. This was exciting as I rode about 50 miles from home in the daylight and came back at night. The dealer prep is not what it should be.
