'06 LR here, 17k miles with absolutely no problems and have enjoyed every single mile of the ride. That said, as been well documented on this forum, there's an IPB issue but it seems to be hit or miss. Most guys seem to have no problem at all and a few have had it go a couple of times in the first 20-30k and have had limited ability in getting the MoCo to cover it. A very few seem to have had the stator issue but I wouldn't say its a major problem.
It does seem the TC96 addressed these issues but they have their own set of issues (lean AFRs causing heat issues). So I'd go with an '06 if its a good deal, enjoy the ride whatever you wind up buying........
Wasn't there a stator issue with certain 06's? Or was that a different year, or am I making it up altogether?
Yep, there was. On my '06 the stator took a dump at about 18K miles (somewhere around there)
Other then that, no problems. I'd do it all over again. First year of the 6 speed and EFI for Dyna's. And the 1st year of the Streetbob.
Look for one that was manufactured later in the year.
1. Neutral indicator light : Recall, if your bike has it the MoCo will repair it
2. Inner Primary Bearing: Some have it some don't
3. 8 degree fuel injectors: Cold start & surging issues. Bikes made after March 06 have the 25 degree cvo injectors
4. Stator issue, the stators on the 06 has screws that may back out and destroy the stator. The fix is a welded one offered on the 07
5. Steering head clunk. $2 fix with a HD heat treated washer
6. Front brake master cylinder cover gasket- warranty
I believe everything has their own set of problems. So I weighed the good and bad, bought my wife a 06. The bike is real nice and we got it for a reasonable price. By now most of the issues should be worked out was my thinking.
