I've tried the search function but cannot seem to find the answer I'm looking for. I've also posted in the sportster but never got any help.
My buddy rides a '08 nightster with 3k miles. Changed oil, adjusted clutch, and new plugs (they were grey and burnt looking - lean???). The problem is with the throttle open the bike runs fine. Idles in neutral ok also. When putting into 1st gear and letting off the clutch, the bike stalls. We were going to try and adjust the fuelpak settings. When I looked online I got a whole bunch of charts that might as well have been written in Farsi. What the hell do they mean??? And how would we adjust the fuelpak to make the bike run a little richer? Can it be done without leaving the bike with the dealer for who knows how long?
Thanks for the help in advance. He's ready to ghost ride his bike into a wall.
Need to make sure each mode is set correctly. The main part is the throttle calibration part in the instructions. First you need to check that the throttle is in fact opening all the way 100% at the throttle body and adjust the cables if needed, then do the calibration with the fuel pack and make sure you do this very slowly. should be 0 to 99. allso make sure you have the right FP map. Stage 1 or stock, pipes ect. If you give me all the info on the bike i can get the right settings for you.
It's a 2008 Nightster. SE air cleaner with V&H sideshots. The FP, pipes, & AC were dealer installed and set.
Adjust the throttle cable? We checked it at thethrottle body and it seemed fine. Will def take a 2nd look now that you mentioned it.
Thanks for your help man. Wehen we called the dealer they said bring it in. When we asked what we could do ourselves the service tech just blew us off and said go to the V&H website. What a joke.
I have the V&H fuelpak and had the same issue your friend has, just have to email V&H and tell them the problem and they will send you a new program. I installed mine then took it to the dealer and had it dyno'd just to get the numbers and the A/F ratio then sent the results to V&H and they built me a custom map for it. Never ran better now no stutter, no slugish, and no popping on decel. I am a happy man and V&H was very helpfull with just a email.
The dealer can't do anymore with it than your friend can except charge you money for something you can do yourself. V&H's does not publish what each mode does and what each code does for each mode. All you can do is double check each setting and redo the calibration, as someone else said, slowly. But, don't pause or hesitate when doing it. Roll the throttle slowly but continously all the way open and then slowly but continuously all the way closed. If the problem persists, call or email V&H fuelpak tech support. They may or may not be able to help. If they don't offer any help, remove the FP from the loop and see if the problem is still there. If it is, it's not the FP. If the problem goes away, it is the FP and he may just have to toss and use something else. I've had good results from my FP but when I had my pipes installed, the dealer reset the FP for the new pipes and set it wrong - it ran like chit. I reset it and recalibrated it and it is now fine. Some don't have such good results and choose to swap it out for something else.

Do you know if the ECU is in stock form or has it been flashed with stage 1? It makes a difference. if you have regular sideshots with the stage one the setting is #2227 if the ECU is is in stock form the #1684. If the ECU is stock and you have the sideshots staggered then the #0681 and with the stage oneit is #2222. You see there are 4 different settings for this bike depending on details. Need to know if your pipes are staggered or not and if the ECU has been flashed or not. If you call V&H they are going to ask these same questions, this most likely can be straightened out with the proper info. you dealer will know if the ECU has been flashed.
Try the other FP profiles, I'm using one for Stage 1 1584 Legal ECM calibration and no Baffles, However I do have baffles installed and I dont have the Stage 1 ECM Flash.
It runs better than with the Fuelpak suggested profile for my equipment.
