I bought a new gasket yesterday and today I'm planning on changing my silver powdercoated outer primary to a new wrinkle black one. Is there anything I should check inside once I get the old primary cover off?
I won't be changing my cover but will have to pull it as I've sprung a leak around the shifter shaft. I was wondering the same thing as you as this will be the first time I've pulled it. I was stunned when the stealer charged me $40 for the cover gasket and $4 for the shaft seal. It'd be nice to know if there are other places you can get gaskets and seals rather than paying through the nose to the stealers.

you can save thru online dealers such as chicago hd
There are lots of online places to buy HD gaskets at discount prices but quality should be the higher priority over price! Low quality gaskets will result in changing them often... THEN how much money will you really be saving?
Got it changed. Everything looked good to me inside the primary.
Low Wider, I thought the same thing when I bought the new gasket yesterday. I think it was like $35.00!!! For a gasket!!! When I took off the primary, my old one looked just as good as the brand new one so I said screw it and reused the old one. I'll keep a check on it for leaks. If it does leak I'll change it. I'm confident it won't. I'll hang on to the gasket for later on.
