hello all!!, new here., i have a 99 FXDX, 8800 miles, during a ride to Mikes Famous HD in Del., we made a stop, fired it up to head out and noticed my engine light stayed lit longer then normal, ok!, it goes out, cool, wrong, comes back on!, i'l like W.T.F. rev it it goes back out!!!, now it does it every time i start it, comes on with the key, fire it up stays lit, goes out and comes right back on, then goes out again!!, any ideas what it up here, this is my first HD, i've been coverted, LOL, dont have the book on it yet, dont want to mess her up, could this light be telling me its time to change the oil??????, does Harley have anything on them (like some cars do) that lets you know when its time to service??????? thanks

 

do a search for dtcs. there is a thread with instructions and dtc list to read them on the dash.

 

When a fault is current it lights the check engine light. If the fault goes away then the check engine light turns off, but the code is stored so you can recall it later. If there's a stored fault code then the check engine light will stay lit for a short while when you first start the bike, 10s I believe.

 

I didn't know '99 models had an ECM to store codes with.... did they?
