i picked up a HD chrome dash extension and was thinking it would be an easy install but it's turning into a pain. it has about a 1/4" gap between the dash and the extension panel. i tried to shift the tank but cant get it to align correctly. are there any tricks to making it work??

 

I put one of these on 2 years ago was a real pain on my wide glide.Took it off because it blinded me when the sun was bright and it got real scratched up. I slotted the dash panel where the where the bolt goes and used a chrome washer to cover the slot.

 

so just cut the hole in the dash panel itself?
does it still stay on alright?
